About this event
PLEASE READ THIS To help keep our meetings safe and welcoming, first-time attendees may be asked to briefly turn on their camera at the beginning of the meeting so the host can verify participants. AT OUR LAST MEETING We got through most of the First Definitive Article and have one last paragraph left over. Ordinarily, I would assign you to read it and then skip discussing it unless someone has a question about it, but it's an interesting paragraph, so we're gonna start with that final paragraph of the First Definitve Article for next time. READ FOR NEXT TIME Section II • First Article • Second Article' • Third Article • --First Supplement • --Second Supplement • --Appendix, Part I That is, read paragraphs 8:352 thru 8:380, which comprise Pages 325 thru 347 in Cambridge's Kant's Practical Philosophy COMING UP 08/09/26 - Finishing the first article on repulicanism 08/20/26 - Hopefully by this point we're on the second article 09/03/26 - Finishing the supplements of the second article. THE PRELIMINARY ARTICLES 1\. Peace treaties should be entered into in good faith\. 2\. Nations are not properties to be inherited or received as a gift\. 3\. No standing armies\. 4\. No national debt for war\. 5\. No state shall interfere in the governing of another state\. 6\. No atrocities that would make a peace treaty impossible\. PARKING LOT I added two new questions that came up with the last meeting. If anyone wants to take a stab at answering them, they're down here in the parking lot. If you are familiar to the Kant group and want to give a presentation on your answer, let me know. I welcome the opportunity to give others some presentation time. https://open.substack.com/pub/kantandkoffee/p/parking-lot?r=2rot22&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true RESOURCES Here is a link is on the Critique of Judgment. I just posted one for the section we just read, §91, concerning what we can positively say about God. Also here is the previous essay, what we cannot say about God. https://kantandkoffee.substack.com/s/philosophy-of-immanuel-kant
