About this event

Adults. Who benefits when we’re told there is only one correct way to write? In a world dominated by AI-grammar tools, we risk losing all of the quirks and imperfect traits that make our writing unique, along with the knowledge of how to tailor our writing to our audience. Why outsource that power to a program, when you can break all the rules yourself? Grammar is one tool among many that writers can use to emotionally affect and engage readers. In this workshop, we’ll explore ways to write sentences that are compelling, persuasive and deliberate and that will give us more agency over how our writing is received. There is power in learning the rules for ourselves so we can then break them deliberately, meaningfully and on purpose. During this workshop, you can expect to participate in two solo writing exercises. *** This program is supported by the Friends of The Vancouver Public Library, a community of library lovers who volunteer, fundraise, and advocate in support of the Vancouver Public Library. The Friends also operate book’mark, The Library Store, on the main level of Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library. *** Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all. If you have an access need that we have not addressed here, please email us at [email protected]. Elevator access to the Alice MacKay Room is available in the concourse near the bank machine. There will be designated spaces for wheelchairs and patrons with mobility devices.Quiet Tables are available for patrons who would prefer to enjoy the class without talking to others. For more information on physical access, view the Accessibility information on the Central Library page.
