About this event

Pennypack Trail is a crushed stone path that follows the former Fox Chase-Newtown SEPTA rail line. It travels along a scenic corridor beginning at Rockledge Park and continuing north to the Bucks-Montgomery border at County Line Road. The trail is part of a larger network of trails in the area, including Lorimer Park and Pennypack Preserve. We will gather at the same place as we did last year, before for the Pennypack Trail, namely Byberry Rd Trailhead (1750 Byberry Road) but this time we will go North and walk approximately 0.85 miles to County Line Road. We will pick up Newtown Trail there and walk for an additional 2.6 miles from County Line Road to Bristol Road. We might take a short 10 minutes break, turn around and walk back clocking at almost 7 miles for a round trip Just as the previous walk - this one is completely easy, wide, flat, and level 12-foot multi-use path composed mostly of crushed stone and asphalt portions. Safety Notes: There are 3 major intersections to cross: Byberry Rd practically immediately, County Line Rd (.85 miles) and 2nd Street Pike (1.8 mile on Newtown trail). Please exercise extra caution on these crossings Restroom Facilities: Byberry Road Trailhead (Start): A portable toilet is available right next to the 50-car parking lot. Second Street Pike / Southampton Station Trailhead (Mile 1.8): A portable toilet is typically provided at this intermediate trailhead access area. Tamanend Upper Southampton Park (Mile 2.0): Fully plumbed, permanent, and ADA-accessible public restrooms are located inside the park, which connects directly to the trail via a short, paved connector path. Bristol Road Terminus (End): There are no restrooms or parking areas at the Bristol Road endpoint. As a matter of fact - there is absolutely NOTHING at Bristol Rd! Parking: The Byberry Rd Trailhead parking has a capacity of appr. 50 vehicles. This is a very popular starting place for many local hikes and other activities so, please allow yourself plenty of time to arrive beforehand in order to secure a spot. If none are available, please DO NOT park at the adjacent Masons Mill Business Park or across the street at La Voglia Restaurant - you WILL BE TOWED!!!! The best bet is to go to Mason Mill park parking lot at 3500 Masons Mill Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 (alternatively listed under the zip code Willow Grove, PA 19090). its a 10-minutes walk from there to the Trailhead, perhaps slightly less if you cut across Mason Mill Business Park lot. See map in Photos below Water: There are no water resources save for the Tamanend Park where we can find drinking water inside the park's main facilities and pavilions. I would suggest just bringing plenty of water for the whole R/T. (By the "popular demand") post-hike meal will be at Uzbekistan Restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/YgTVKtsjtfZoFgJi6) say for 12:30-12:45 PM (Remember it is BYOB and everyone should bring cash - they charge extra for CCs
