THIS WEEK: In attempting to pose, and answer, ‘the question of human existence’, these workshops have focused on the two common phenomena of consciousness and value, which have been neglected in both academic and conventional circles. But consciousness has been presented here as an explanatory and ‘integrative concept’, and value has been argued to be a key qualification. And in order to demonstrate its indispensability, we must now locate ‘value’ in a context of contrasts and comparisons with other states in a proposed exhaustive classification of the four mental states of cognition, affect, will and value.
