Spinoza’s Ethics - Book Club
About this event
This meeting will be dedicated to discussion of the Ethics by Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677). We’ll be reviewing the entire work, with a focus on part I. We recommend the Edward Curley translation (Penguin Edition (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/286292/ethics-by-benedict-de-spinoza/)). Some supplementary materials are available below: Behind the Geometrical Method: Chapter One - Curley (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1d8BKvjjWnB6aG0aMIUXwX6XY10gYWrKe?usp=sharing) Substance - Parts 1 and 2.2-2.4 (https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/substance/) Principle of Sufficient Reason - Part 1 & 2 (https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/sufficient-reason/) Descartes, Principles of Philosophy I.51–56 and I.60–62 (five pages, for those who want to read Descartes explaining his definitions in his own words)
