It may not simply be a language problem. Japanese conversations often draw on knowledge and context built through school, the news, work, popular culture, and everyday life. That’s what we explore at Decoding Japan Meetup. Instead of practicing Japanese conversation with random topics, we discuss Japanese history, culture, society, and the ideas behind contemporary Japan — in Japanese. The goal is not just to speak more Japanese.
