Life Is Absurd. Now What? — Camus & The Myth of Sisyphus - Part II
About this event
You did not have to attend Part 1 to join Part 2, but please come caught up and ready to jump in. We’ll be diving straight into The Myth of Sisyphus, so full engagement is definitely encouraged. This is not going to be a technical breakdown of the book, and nobody needs to show up prepared to explain what happened chapter by chapter. We have TikTok for performative book summaries. 😭 Instead, we’re going to slow down and really engage with the existential questions The Myth of Sisyphus raises. There are moments in this book where you can stop, sit with one idea, and argue with it for hours, and that is exactly the kind of conversation we want. The kind of questions we’ll be playing with might sound more like: Camus rejects “philosophical suicide” because it escapes the absurd through hope, faith, or transcendence. But does his own idea of revolt do the same thing in disguise? Is revolt really acceptance of the absurd, or just a more intellectually respectable coping mechanism? If consciousness is what creates the absurd because we are aware enough to demand answers the universe cannot give, would ignorance actually be a kind of mercy? And if so, why should lucidity be treated as something noble? We're not trying to “solve” Camus, but because this is where the fun is: pushing on the argument, seeing where it holds, where it contradicts itself, and where it starts exposing our own assumptions too. Think less “What did Camus say?” and more: Do I actually buy this? What is he assuming here? Where does his argument work for me? Where does it fall apart? And what does this force me to question about my own way of thinking? You do not need to be a philosophy expert. You do need to come curious, prepared, and willing to think out loud. Part 1 opens the door. Part 2 is where we start pulling the walls apart. House Rules Cameras on when you can. We’re trying to talk to actual humans here, not a wall of initials. 😂 If you’re eating, moving around, dealing with something, or literally in the bathroom… obviously use your judgment. Bring a drink, dinner, coffee, whatever. This is meant to feel relaxed. Just mute yourself if you’re chewing like your life depends on it. Homework is highly encouraged. Not because there’s a quiz, but because it makes the conversation way more fun. Come with a thought, disagreement, question, favorite passage, terrible take, anything. If you want to throw in your two cents, give yourself something to work with. You do not have to sound smart. You just have to engage. Ask the weird question. Challenge the idea. Change your mind halfway through. That’s the whole point. Talk it through. Let me see that brain in action in real time👀🧠 Basically: come prepared, come curious, and don’t be afraid to make the conversation messier. Click link down below for free resources.
