Film Club: Complicity, One Choice at a Time (secret film)
About this event
Film screening and philosophical discussion. A young man leaves the safety of home in search of adventure, freedom and a life less ordinary. What follows is a series of choices: some impulsive, some self-serving, some made under pressure, and some whose consequences become clear only when it is too late. But when does a choice really count as free? How much responsibility do we bear for decisions made in ignorance, fear, excitement or dependence on someone more powerful? Can we excuse ourselves by saying that we did not know what we were getting into? And once our choices have entangled us in a situation we no longer control, what choices remain? Can you guess the film? Or come and discover on the night! Pre-explore via RationalGrid.ai here (https://rationalgrid.ai/g/philosophical-themes-in-the-last-king-of-scotland-09be9b?node=2)(spoiler alert!) - optional. This year’s films all revolve around the theme of “choice” – plenty of opportunity for philosophical exploration! PFA Film Club hosts free screenings of thought-provoking films, followed by a discussion about the raised philosophical issues, for general public. In 2026 meetings are held every third WEDNESDAY of the month at the Cafe of St. Hilda's East Community Centre, 18 Club Row, London E2 7EY. The nearest station is Shoreditch High Street on the Overground. This screening starts at 6:00 pm (longer film) and we need to vacate the building by 9:00pm. We offer complimentary light refreshments during the event. For the most up-to-date schedule of the upcoming film club events, visit our website (http://pfalondon.org/#rec767601373).
