Philosophical Discussion Concerning Art and Beauty
About this event
(Detailed topic description will be given shortly) Greetings, Do you like going to see art exhibitions? Or do you like listening to live music at a concert or in a live hall? Do you watch new films and some of the old classic ones? Then, perhaps you may agree that art communicates emotions and thoughts through the object of art, which may be artefacts or performance. For me, the greatest and most striking aesthetic experience occurred twice in my whole life that I can remember: one was Michelangelo’s “Pieta”, the other one was Van Gogh’s “Sunflower”. When I encountered them for the first time, I was immediately caught in their overwhelming aesthetic grip. Join me for a discussion about philosophical questions related to Art, beauty, spirituality, and moral goodness. Who is your favourite artist? Is artistic value subjective or objective? I look forward to discussing this with you. Questions: 1. What counts as art? 2. Is beauty objective or subjective? 3. Can a work of art be bad yet still be art? 4. How does art communicate emotion? 5. Is there a single correct interpretation? 6. Why do we enjoy tragic art? 7. Is artistic value independent of morality? For instance, can a murderer also create art, and can that art be deemed beautiful and valuable? 8. Is there a connection between morality and art regarding goodness? 9. Can artificial intelligence create true art? 10. What are the moral responsibilities of artists? Etymology : 🤖(ChatGPT quick note) .......
