The Goodbye Meetup
About this event
We are pleased to announce The Goodbye Meetup with our long-standing headquarters. This will be our last meetup at the Amsterdam Zuidas office, Gustav Maherlaan 10. Next year, we'll be relocating to our new headquarters, currently under renovation, at Bijlmer Arena, Foppingadreef 22. As we leave our iconic headquarters, we want to say a proper goodbye to our Developer Community! This is also one of the last chances to see (part of) Bank's head office occupied from 1999, from the inside; you definitely wouldn't like to miss out! 🗓️ Thursday 15 October 2026 🕰️ 17:15 Walk-in 📍 ABN AMRO Corporate Headquarters - Gustav Mahlerlaan 10 (https://goo.gl/maps/9tDX1xfb8FkRPmRf9) PROGRAM 17:15 - 18:15: Walk-in, Food & Drinks 18:15 - 18:20: Welcome Presentation 18:20 - 18:50: Why Doesn't Frontend Have a Patch Button?, Jurgen Sweere, ABN AMRO 18:50 - 19:20: Java, LEGO & AI: Teaching the Next Generation to Build, Not Just Prompt, Edwin (Eddy) Vos, Albert Heijn 19:20 - 19:30: Break 19:30 - 20:00: Modernizing Legacy Landscape - One Line of Code at a Time, Valeriya Komarnitskaya, ABN AMRO 20:00 - 20:30: Your Biggest New Customer Can't See Pixels, Tim Damen\*, ABN AMRO 20:30 - 21:45: Networking, Food & Drinks \* We are open to giving the chance for an external Speaker to close our meetup's history. SPEAKERS Jurgen Sweere - Why Doesn't Frontend Have a Patch Button? When a platform team ships a change, why do hundreds of developers end up performing the same migration by hand? This talk looks at the hidden economics of frontend maintenance and how Warp Drive uses automated migrations to apply upgrades across hundreds of applications consistently, predictably, and with far less effort than traditional documentation-driven approaches. Edwin (Eddy) Vos - Java, LEGO & AI: Teaching the Next Generation to Build, Not Just Prompt Generative AI can write code in seconds. So does it still make sense to teach programming to children? We at Devoxx4Kids think it does.In our workshops, we use LEGO SPIKE robots to teach problem-solving, software design and computational thinking. There is just one challenge: LEGO SPIKE does not officially support Java.Rather than accepting that limitation, we explored alternative approaches to bring Java to the platform and make LEGO robots accessible to our next generation Java developers. In this session, we'll share our journey, demonstrate how Java can be used to control LEGO SPIKE robots, discuss the technical challenges we encountered, and show real-world examples from educational settings. Valeriya Komarnitskaya - Modernizing Legacy Landscape - One Line of Code at a Time Modernizing legacy systems in a bank is rarely about one big rewrite. It is a journey of continuous improvements, trade-offs and learnings. In this talk, we will explore how we are evolving a complex legacy landscape, what tools and technology facilitate us in this ongoing journey and how we reduce technical debt without disrupting the business. Tim Damen - Your Biggest New Customer Can't See Pixels For decades we've argued that accessibility is the right thing to do. The argument just got a lot easier, because your next customer probably isn't human. Whether you like it or not AI agents from are now browsing, comparing, and interacting on behalf of users. And here's the twist: they consume your site through the exact same accessibility tree screen readers do. Semantic HTML, proper labels, ARIA states, keyboard support, the same patterns that serve disabled users determine whether an agent can efficiently complete a checkout, fill a form, or even find your product. In this talk we'll look at how agents actually use the web, where they fail (and why those failures map to WCAG violations), and what web development teams should do today. If you've been waiting for a business case for accessibility that lands with execs, this is it. 🚗 yes, parking is possible at our location.
