A Walk Around Junction Road
About this event
From Junction Road Temples to Song Wong Toi Join Hong Kong Sacred Spaces for a walk through the historical heart of Kowloon City! This route explores the sacred sites along Junction Road, post-war heritage, the legacy of the Kowloon Walled City, and the royal history of the Song Dynasty. Event Highlights • Junction Road Temples & Tian Hou Temple (天后聖母古廟): We begin our journey along Junction Road, stopping at the local traditional temples and shrines that have long served the spiritual needs of Kowloon City’s community. Highlights include paying homage at the historic Tian Hou (Tin Hau) Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea, as well as adjacent local shrines. • Stone Houses Family Garden (石屋家園): Next, we will visit the Grade III historic pre-war/post-war granite stone structures at 133 Junction Road. Once part of the Hau Wong Temple New Village, these revitalized stone tenement houses offer a look into mid-20th-century Hong Kong life. • Kowloon Walled City Park (九龍寨城公園): We will walk into this Jiangnan-style Qing garden built on the site of the former Kowloon Walled City. We’ll view the remaining original artifacts, including the restored Yamen building, the old south gate foundation stones, and historical exhibits detailing the site’s transition from a Qing military outpost to the infamous enclave. • Song Wong Toi Park (宋王臺花園): We conclude our walk at the historic boulder inscription commemorating the young Song Dynasty emperors (Emperor Duanzong and Emperor Zhao Bing) who sought refuge in Hong Kong during the Mongol invasion in the late 13th century.
