Halloween in Old Town

About this event

Let's meet at the bike rack across the street from the King Street Metro Station and enjoy a Halloween walk in Old Town! Costumes are not required, but are certainly encouraged! NB: There is a Capital Bikeshare on Cameron St, across the street from the King St Metro, but that's NOT where we are meeting! Come to the Capital Bikeshare on Diagonal St, GPS 38.805761, -77.060619 ❶ What we'll do: • From the bike rack we'll walk south and east through the Alexandria Cemetery to check out the Grave of the Unknown Stranger. Afterwards we'll exit the cemetery along Wilkes St and walk east and south to the junction of Green and South Lee streets. Then we'll had north through the Halloween block party to King Street, where we'll turn left and walk west back to our starting point, with a one-black detour to the north to check out the Carlysle House and Gadsby's Tavern. • The walk is about 3.5 miles and should take no more than two hours. The surface is mostly paved throughout and fairly level. • Google map: https://tinyurl.com/5n6wz5x2 ❷ How to get there: • Metro: King Street Station is on the Blue and Yellow Lines. See the WMATA Trip Planner at https://www.wmata.com/ • Driving: From I-395, take VA-7 / King Street east about 2.8 miles. Take the first right after passing under the railroad (Daingerfield Street), and an immediate right onto Diagonal Road. From US-1 / Richmond Highway, follow King Street west 0.5 miles, take a sharp left onto Daingerfield, and the first right onto Diagonal Road. There is free and metered parallel parking in the area but leave yourself a little extra time to find it! ❸ Weather: It's too early to see the forecast! Of course you're encouraged to don a Halloween costume! ❺ Advisories: • As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers. • After sunset, motorists have difficulty seeing you! Watch out for vehicles, and wear light or reflective clothing. ❻ Administrative stuff: There are restrooms at several commercial establishments along our route.
