About Sungei Ulu Pandan • Name Origin: In Malay, "Sungei" means river, while "Ulu" refers to the upstream headwater origins of the river. • Hydrological Role: Sungei Ulu Pandan flows downstream into the Pandan River in the south, which directly feeds into the Pandan Reservoir before eventually flowing into the sea. • Vital Lifeline: The river plays a essential role in urban drainage and water sustainability by funneling freshwater into the reservoir. Simultaneously, its lush Park Connector Network (PCN) banks serve as a critical wildlife corridor providing rich habitats and feeding grounds for native fauna. The Route & Highlights • The Metropolis & the "Gentlemen" Art Installation: Gather outside McDonald's at Buona Vista MRT Station Exit D and take a short turn around the corner to view the striking "Gentlemen" public art installation at The Metropolis. • Rail Corridor & Viaduct Graffiti Art: Enter the Rail Corridor through the Buona Vista Node, head north, passing under the Commonwealth Avenue Flyover to admire vibrant viaduct graffiti art enroute. • Sungei Ulu Pandan: Exit the Rail Corridor into Ghim Moh Estate, then descend to the north river bank Park Connector. Observe the massive structural infrastructure built into the slopes supporting the hilltop landed properties above the river bank. • Disused Railway Bridge & Wildlife Spotting: Lookout for the historic disused railway bridge spanning overhead across the river. Along the riverbanks, keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife including otters and monitor lizards! • Bird Species Identification: Watch out for 8 commonly sighted bird species along the river. Our host has specially created an educational poster featuring fun facts and identification tips to help you spot them on the trail (see photo section below). • J-Walk Link: Stroll through the 2nd-floor J-Walk linkway at Perennial Business City to JEM. • Social Dinner at JEM Kopitiam Food Hall: Conclude at the sprawling 12,000 sq ft, fully air-conditioned Kopitiam Food Hall on Level 5 of JEM, offering 26 deliciously curated food stalls to choose from (see photo section below). JEM is seamlessly connected to Jurong East MRT Station for an easy ride home.
