Philosophy Roundtable: Culture
About this event
Please join us this Sunday to discuss the philosophy of 'Culture'. This includes 'Culture' in different societies, as a term in itself, and as we experience in our everyday lives. Sometimes visible only when we experience a different 'culture'. What's your view on culture? We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo in the spirit of learning, sharing thoughts and friendly debate. We welcome your self-reflections! In addition feel free to question assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions questioned. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group Possible questions: • What is 'Culture'? What is it's function? • What are the most important aspects of culture? (eg language, art, stories? ), and is this common across cultures? • What is the biggest cultural misunderstanding you've come across? • Are there better and worse ways to express culture? • How does culture change over time? • Should culture be changed or preserved? If so, how? • Is cultural appropriation wrong? ...and open to any other questions or curiosities about this topic people might have on the day! Hope to see you there!
