About this event

Adults: 18 and up. In the present midterm election climate “Socialism” is becoming a scare word for conservative members of the public. Some politicians try to label the Democrats’ progressive wing, the Democratic Socialists of America, as “Communism” implying that the whole party is tainted by it. We invite you to join us in a discussion of socialism and capitalism in their different forms in the hope of achieving some clarity, making it easier to decide what is at stake in the election. Professor Gerhard Schutte will lead the discussion after a short introduction. He is a professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Wisconsin System and published widely on race and ethnic relations. This program is a partnership between Edgewater Village Chicago and the Edgewater Branch Library. Accessibility Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
