Topic: Dialogue on the Cornell University Case
About this event
Hi All, The Cornell University case has been a widely shared and polarizing topic. While it brings up some anxiousness in me, I'd like to have a dialogue about it as a group. I'm sharing some links below in case anyone is unfamiliar. Why do I think this is important to discuss? I think in our efforts to be improving as men in the world it is important to talk about social dynamics that could lead to events like this taking place. I'd like to be an a voice for good in the world, to be a mentor to younger men (and men in general), as well as be and advocate for women and healthy relationships. Here are some things I'm curious about: • Your general take on the case • What you think led to it happening (social influences, party culture, etc) • What you think could have been done differently (for all parties involved) • How we can challenge ourselves to discuss this issue more widely as men and advocate for better outcomes for women and men FYI this is doing to be a dialogue, not a debate. We will be seeing to understand everyone’s point of view, not prove that one view is the "correct" one. Here are two articles on the matter. I tried to pick ones that did not have a strong bias and that tried to speak from the accuser and accused point of view: • https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cornell-title-ix-investigation-docs-reveal-new-details-rape-investigation/ • https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/investigative-records-give-insight-accused-cornell-student-responded-a-rcna600987 If there are other articles or info that feel relevant to you. Please send them my way and we can discuss in WhatsApp or in the meeting itself. Thanks and see you Wednesday, \~Matty
