About this event

Family, Kids (6-8 years), Preschoolers (3-5 years), Tweens (9-13 years). Read to Pet Pals gives kids the chance to read to a non-judgmental listener, one who will accept the story exactly as they read it. For many children, this allows them a rare chance to experience stress free reading. Being able to relax and have fun reading increases motivation to read, which is an essential element in becoming a successful reader. Meet Dolly and Lilith Dolly, the Rainbow Poodle, and Lilith the Therapy Cat, will be taking turns at El Río Library listening to stories every other Thursday. Read to a Dog is designed to allow kids the chance to read to a non-judgmental listener, one who will accept the story exactly as they read it. For many children, this allows them a rare chance to experience stress free reading; they're able to relax and having fun while reading! How does Read to Pet Pals work? Kids come to library during Read to Pet Pals and select a book to read to a furry friend. All of the pets and handlers who participate have been certified as therapy animals by an accredited organization. Thinking of adopting a pet?
