About this event

All Adults, Families. Join us in celebrating the career of Mr. Allen Knight! For over 25 years, Mr. Knight has been a pillar of the community, providing a safe and encouraging space for all. After starting in 1975 at the Government Documents Department of the Boston Public Library, Mr. Knight eventually stepped into the private sector where he worked in various positions around the city for many years. While he excelled as an analyst, true callings have a way of bringing you back home. In 2001, Mr. Knight returned to the Library where his dedication and commitment have benefited communities all around Boston. From his Generalist days in Uphams Corner, his Teen Librarian days at Grove Hall, to his position as Adult Services Librarian for the then Dudley Branch, Mr. Knight brought change, empathy, and Library services to all who walked through these doors. For years, he was the go-to Branch Librarian, answering the call from any branch that needed his services. In 2017, Mr. Knight officially became the Branch Librarian of the Dudley, now Shaw-Roxbury, Branch Library. Leading a community library is about so much more than managing books. It is about fostering a safe haven, a center for lifelong learning, and a cornerstone of the neighborhood. For nearly a decade as director, Mr. Knight did exactly that with grace, wisdom, and an open heart. He has mentored staff, inspired patrons, and ensured that the library remained a beacon of light for the Roxbury community. Mr. Knight, From everyone on staff and everyone in the community, thank you endlessly for all you have done for us. You've made this Library wonderful and we will miss you tremendously when you leave. Have a beautiful retirement and don't forget about us!!! With love, Roxbury Accessibility Notice: We strive to make our events accessible.
