Concerns regarding the very human art of persuasion have a long history: from the analysis of rhetoric in the Socratic dialogue of Gorgias, through the manipulation of public opinion by Edward Bernays, fascist propaganda theory as developed by Joseph Goebbels, CIA projects such as MKUltra, to the modern techniques of psychographic profiling by firms such as Cambridge Analytica. Please note: We are skipping one week because some of us are going to see the documentary You Can See Everything, which I encourage everyone to check out, as it brings up topics adjacent to our discussions. Join us as we begin to explore this topic starting with this book: The Instability of Truth: Brain washing, Mind Control, and Hyper-Persuasion by Rebecca Lemov.
