Cloud Kickoff: Getting Started with AWS
About this event
New to the cloud? Start here. Cloud Kickoff is the first general meeting of the AWS Student Builder Group at Rochester Institute of Technology – Dubai Campus. It’s designed for students with little or no AWS experience. You’ll learn what cloud computing is, see what AWS offers and how widely it’s used in industry, and leave with working access to AWS Builder Center and your own sandbox environment, ready for the hands-on sessions that follow. What we’ll cover: 1. Introduction to cloud computing: what the cloud is and why it matters 2. What AWS is and what it offers, including core services, deployment, and AI/ML tools such as Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker 3. Hands-on setup: creating AWS Builder Center accounts, setting up sandboxes, and confirming everyone has access 4. Walkthrough of AWS Builder Labs and how to use them independently 5. Overview of the group’s upcoming events for the year and an introduction to future group projects 6. A small prize draw for attendees: a one-month Claude AI subscription Important: you must create an AWS Builder ID to attend. If you can, set one up beforehand at builderid.aws (or we’ll walk you through it at the event). What to bring: • Your laptop (fully charged) • A working email address you can access during the session No prior AWS or cloud experience needed. Everyone is welcome! Location: H109, RIT Dubai Campus
