About this event

What does AI look like when the goal isn’t profit but impact? For this edition of Data & Drinks, we’re dedicating the evening to AI for Good. Join us on Thursday 26th of November, from 17:30 to 21:00, at our new Xomnia office (Vierwindenstraat 149, Amsterdam). During this event, we will host three talks: the Netherlands Red Cross and Xomnia will share how they use LLMs to analyse humanitarian feedback at scale, Rainforest Alliance will show how AI helps them reach millions of farmers with the right training, and Doctors Without Borders will walk us through how they built the foundations for safe AI adoption across their organization. This free event includes food, drinks and plenty of networking opportunities with data professionals from Amsterdam and beyond. Schedule • 17:30 - 18:20: Welcome with food and drinks! • 18:20 - 18:30: Opening notes • 18:30 - 18:55: Analyzing humanitarian feedback with LLMs, by Daan Gorsse (Netherlands Red Cross) and Olaf de Graaff (Xomnia) • 18:55 - 19:20: Meeting the learner where they are at, by Daniel Uosukainen and Saana Sirkkala (Rainforest Alliance) • 19:20 - 19:35: Break • 19:35 - 20:00: Building the foundations for safe AI adoption at MSF, by Derek Loots (Doctors Without Borders) • 20:00 - 21:00: Networking/drinks Talk 1: Analyzing humanitarian feedback with LLMs, by Daan Gorsse and Olaf de Graaff When a crisis hits, Red Cross teams all over the world receive large volumes of community feedback every day: questions, complaints, comments and requests, in many languages. Reading, classifying and interpreting all of it by hand doesn’t scale, and getting it wrong means missing what people need. In this talk, 510, the data and digital team of the Netherlands Red Cross, shows how they built an open-source service together with Xomnia. It plugs into their CRM, anonymizes the feedback and uses LLMs to summarize, classify and spot trends across thousands of records. They’ll share the lessons learned along the way. About Daan: Daan Gorsse is a Data Specialist in the 510 team at the Netherlands Red Cross, where he designs and implements data platforms, feedback management systems and AI-enabled analytical tools for humanitarian organisations around the world. He works with teams across multiple countries to turn large volumes of community feedback and operational data into structured, actionable insights. About Olaf: Olaf de Graaff is a Machine Learning Engineer at Xomnia, currently focused on agentic AI. For almost two years, he has worked as a data and machine learning engineer for a range of organisations, including 510 on their qualitative feedback analysis service. Outside of work, he loves to travel, play squash and outpace his colleagues on a run. Talk 2: Meeting the learner where they are at: Agile production and targeted reach through AI, by Daniel Uosukainen and Saana Sirkkala Rainforest Alliance’s certification programmes aim to reach millions of farmers to make social and environmental impact in some of the most biodiverse landscapes on the planet. Training is a crucial part of that: every year, thousands of face-to-face trainings are held and tens of thousands of people take part in online learning across the globe. So how do you produce effective learning at scale without losing touch with local contexts? And how do you make sure learners can rely on validated content when it’s easier to just ask a chatbot? This is the story of how instructional designers are meeting the AI future head-on to increase impact in the field. About Daniel: Daniel Uosukainen is Manager Instructional Design at Rainforest Alliance. With a background in social sciences and international development, he has spent most of his seven years there as a trainer and instructional design generalist, from train-the-trainer models and participatory training to monitoring and evaluation and managing the systems that deliver learning to tens of thousands of learners. About Saana: Saana Sirkkala is Manager Instructio
