Weather (https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.11&lon=-114.84&site=vef&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text) Wikiloc (http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=8554906) Description: This is a dirt walk mainly in large washes. This is a longer version of the usual White Owl Canyon taking us through several areas not normally traveled and turning it into a loop. From the lake we pass through two corrugated steel drainage tunnels leading under Lakeshore Dr and under the River Mountain loop. This leads to a wide open wash, followed by a winding narrow wash believed to be a mountain lion ambush area. We will hit a dry waterfall that is easily bypassed by walking up a steep hillside to get around, poles will be helpful here. Once we cross over to the 2nd canyon and we begin going downhill, you will be treated to many scenic views of this rarely seen area of the River Mountains. As we get closer to the lake we will enter the White Owl Canyon, keep your eyes peeled and look up and you may glimpse the owl that gives the canyon its name. White Owl canyon is a bit shaded so you may have to put your jacket back on near the end of the hike depending on the weather. The time of the meetup is the time we are LEAVING the carpool location (if no carpool then it is the time we are starting hike), please come on time, or chase after us frantically if you are late. Please review the planned hike if possible, be prepared for a no host event should your organizer need to drop off at the last minute. Pictures are often taken during meetups and posted on the site, if you don't want to be photographed then wear a bag over your head. If the meetup only has one person coming it may be canceled if I can’t be sure you will show up (I’ll try to contact you). Hiking time estimates are for an average size group, smaller groups go faster and larger groups slower. Please be aware that your Meetup organizers are not tour guides and are not park rangers.
