About this event

Losing a job later in your career can bring a different set of concerns. Age, financial pressure, years of experience, and questions about what comes next can all affect the job search. In this fireside chat, Doug shares his experience navigating a job loss after 50, from figuring out his next move to managing applications, interviews, and the realities of looking for work as an experienced professional. The conversation also explores a second path he pursued alongside his job search: earning certifications in Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). Doug will discuss why he chose that direction, what it required in time and money, and how he evaluated the potential value of the investment. Topics will include: • Navigating an unexpected job loss later in your career • Managing the job search, from applications to interviews and offers • Recognizing and responding to age-related concerns during hiring • Presenting decades of experience effectively on a resume and LinkedIn • Deciding when additional certifications are worth the investment • Balancing certification study with the demands of an active job search • Using professional experience and new credentials to pursue opportunities This is an honest conversation about career setbacks, practical decisions, and finding a path forward. Doug's experience offers a chance to hear what the process actually looked like, including the challenges, the choices, and the lessons along the way.
