About this event
Welcome to our World Cultures series. Bangkok is home to people from many different countries, and weβd love to create a welcoming space where anyone can come together to share, learn, and appreciate each other's cultures and traditions that make our world so beautifully diverse. What Is It About? This World Origami Day, we're coming together to explore the beautiful art of paper folding! Whether you'd like to try folding origami for fun, learn a new design, or share your favorite folds with others, everyone is welcome. β Did You Know? β Origami is the traditional Japanese art of transforming a simple sheet of paper into various shapes through folding. According to ancient legend, the crane (tsuru) is a sacred bird that lives for 1,000 years. In Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 paper cranes (senbazuru) is said to bring a special wish, good fortune, and longevity. Its association with making a wish for world peace spread internationally through the story of a young girl who survived the war named Sadako Sasaki. Today, people around the world fold cranes as expressions of peace, hope, and remembrance. November 11 is also observed as Remembrance Day, Veterans Day, and Armistice Day in different countries, making it a meaningful opportunity to honor those who have served, remember those who have been impacted, and reflect on the importance of unity. What To Expect π Wishes: You're welcome to write a personal wish for peace, hope, or a better future inside of your origami paper. π Origami: Bring your favorite origami designs to fold together, share your skills with others, or learn something new from fellow participants.
