About this event

Philosophy was never meant to be locked away in universities or reserved for academic elites ! From Socrates challenging the citizens of Athens to Marc Sautet bringing philosophy back to the Parisian café, we explore the struggle to take philosophy out of the hands of the intellectual establishment and place it into the public sphere. Emerging from the shadows of the dark ages we trace the rise of scholastic guilds, proto-universities, intellectual circles and secret societies who preserved the ancient texts. By the Enlightenment, rebellious salons were challenging established authority and embracing the radical idea that "knowledge is power" Today the Socrates Café, Café Philosophique and Fight Club carry that tradition forward; challenging the monopoly on knowledge and bringing philosophy back to the people. To cover the cost of the event we will be asking for a small $ contribution on the night. Food and drink inclusive. \*Please only RSVP if you are definitely attending Join our community Discord https://discord.gg/XRMz7MXy4q
