Hi Folks, Welcome to our Freud & Psychoanalytic reading group. This group will be facilitated by myself and other graduate students studying this material. The topic for our next meeting on August 15th will be a bit different: it will not be focused on a reading, but instead on a seven-episode podcast called Hysterical! See: https://www.audible.com/podcast/Hysterical/B0G42J1W9T A psychogenic illness outbreak in the fall and winter of 2011-2012 wreaked havoc in a town (Le Roy, NY) about 35 minutes southwest of Rochester, where a group of high school students reported increasing physical symptoms and tics. The story made international news, and its mysterious undertones have been subject to scrutiny and fascination ever since. The Hysterical podcast uses this event to frame its investigation into the concept of hysteria, known these days as conversion disorder, by interviewing psychoanalysts, psychologists, and even those students from Le Roy, NY!
