Seating for the Music: There are seats available in and around the performance area (see the photo), as well as park benches. If you prefer the grassy areas then bring something to place on the ground. Our departure point is in a grassy area adjacent to he children's playground overlooking the water and slightly away from the Discovery Center building. To Bring: Water to drink, (a hat for the sun and snacks recommended). This tour is free with a welcome optional donation to your guide at the end via cash, venmo or zeller. Meeting Location: Our guided walk begins outside the Dana Discovery Center inside Central Park north, 110th Street between 5th Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard. There is a grassy area to the West of the center to the right of the paved walking path. Do take care of business before the tour begins. About the Music 2pm - 4pm: Uptown Royalty delivers a dynamic, genre-defying fusion of salsa, R&B, and jazz, creating a sound that is both timeless and electrifying. Founded by Bronx native Jodi Music and her husband, Washington Heights native Ron Renaissance, the band was built on a shared vision to craft unforgettable live music experiences that move audiences emotionally and physically. Seating is limited but often available: Either arrive early or bring something to sit on the grass. There are also park benches in the area. TOUR OVERVIEW: WALKING TOUR STARTS AT 4:00PM or when the concert is finished on the West Side of the Discovery Center restroom in grassy area adjacent to the children's playground. Walking Tour Overview We'll visit the Mount Morris Park Historic District along with the rest of neighboring South Harlem (110th-123rd Streets), with its magnificent late 19th century residential architecture along distinctive houses of worship, scenic Morningside Park and Marcus Garvey Park. As we uncover the layers of the area's rich history, you will learn about Jewish Harlem (1880s - 1930s) and the birthplace of be-bop jazz in the 1940's at Minton's Uptown Playhouse. You will also experience the current street life of the area along lively Frederick Douglass Boulevard with its dozens of restaurants and cafes, along with Little Africa along West 116th street with its restaurants, outdoor market and businesses. Tour will end convenient to subways at West 116th Street (2,3, A,C,D). Optional afterparty at a local establishment for dinner or a drink. Cheers from Hank 646-596-3005 [email protected]
