About this event

RVSP on Luma!: https://luma.com/tiwv09il Join us for an evening of data science side projects and networking! Come hear lightning talks about what people are building, meet other people working on cool stuff, and hang out. Whether you're deep into a side project, just getting started on one, or curious about what other people are working on, this is a good place to be. Side projects are how a lot of us learn new tools, explore ideas, and connect with people—and they're a lot more fun when you have other people to talk to about them. Speakers! TBA, but I'll add more as they come in! David Cyprian presents "AI & Airwaves: Listening to the Communities Where We Work," on using AI to turn African FM radio broadcasts into real-time, analyzable insight for program teams. Emma Durr presents "Polling Public Data with LLM Filters," on building a watcher that sifts thousands of clinical trial updates down to the few that matter, like a trial quietly ending or finally posting its results, with AI reading the fine print. Josh Jacobson presents "How I Ship Faster for the Public Good," on using teams of AI agents to speed up civic tech development and ship tools that meet the news cycle and improve residents' lives. Stephanie Tsao presents "Extracting Data from Position Descriptions in PDF Format," on using various Python libraries to extract information from PDFs, applying those tools to pull duties and responsibilities from position descriptions.
